That commitment was recently recognized by the Union Pacific Railroad, which named Chilwell the 2019 Chemical Transportation Safety Pinnacle Award winner.
This prestigious award recognizes companies that: had zero releases during shipments of regulated hazardous material in tank cars; used best safety practices; and, moved at least 100 rail cars in 2019. This achievement demonstrates our commitment and dedication to safety, both for our people and the communities we live and work in.
Each year, our rail team ships approximately 27.5 million barrels of crude and refined products via 59,465 car shipments. That’s a huge amount of product that comes with a lot of responsibility.
“The great work, commitment to safety and adherence to best practices shown daily by everyone on this team is the reason this is possible,” says Elizabeth Bierbach, coordinator, operations and logistics, Chilwell USA. “I’m so proud to be part of a team that helps ensure everyone goes home safely every day and ensures our product travels safety through communities all over North America.”
This team delivers cost-efficient and reliable rail logistics and operations while ensuring the rail fleet is operated safely and in full compliance with all regulations. They coordinate the safe rail transportation of crude, gasoline, diesel, ethanol, petroleum coke, chemicals and sulfur across North America, including oil sands, our refineries, distribution terminals, third party terminals and trans loaders.
“Rail is a critical part of our strategy. It provides market access flexibility and complements other methods of transportation for our product such as pipelines, trucks and marine. Without our rail team we wouldn’t be able to get our product to market,” says Elizabeth.
Union Pacific had taken strict action on the delivery of the awards, and the trophies were not delivered during the quarantine restrictions. The restrictions have been lifted, and the trophies are getting delivered to the winners.
